On Thursday we had Jason Tardy come to our school and talk about aspiring higher to the students. He spoke about following your dreams, working hard, practice, and doing well in school. He said that he knew he wanted to juggle from a young age, work hard in school to graduate a year early as his high school's valedictorian, and had to practice and work hard to become good at juggling. He encouraged the students to work hard and follow their dream by believing in themselves. Here are some pictures from the assembly. We really enjoyed listening to him and seeing all of the cool tricks he can do.

Learning in the Classroom
Here are some pictures from a few weeks ago of the learning that was going on in the classroom.
Matching the firefighter's gear to the firefighter.
Counting and sorting how many word are in a sentence (not reading), just understanding that words are separated by spaces and counting each word.
Counting Jar
Card compare. This is similar to the game "war". 2 students turn over a card, compare who has more, and the person with more can keep both the cards.
Aspire Higher Posters K-2
On Friday, all of Kindergarten to 2nd grade put up poster presentations in the cafeteria about what they want to be when they grow up. Here is a peek at the different posters.
Aspire Higher- Thursday / Friday
On Thursday we learned about being a junior firefighter. We also learned that if you want to be a firefighter in the future, that being a junior firefighter might be the right choice for you. We learned that even though you cannot go into a house that is on fire until you are 18, there are a lot of parts of the job that you can do.
On Friday we had visitors from iRobot. The students loved learning about the robots and seeing them move. We though it was really neat that you can build robots for a job. We learned that they make robots for the home, for police /military, and they even have a robot named Ava that has a screen on the "face" and can use face time to help sick students "go to school" when they are home!
Aspire Higher- Tuesday
On Tuesday we learned about being a Sonographer and a Sheriff.
We learned that we have all probably had an ultra sound when we were in our mom's bellies. We saw pictures of ultrasounds and learn about the tools that are used.
Next we learn about being a sheriff. We learned that you need to do well in school, behave, be honest, and trustworthy. We also learned about the tools that a sheriff has to wear.
Aspire Higher - Monday
This week we have been learning all about jobs and careers. The students loved hearing about what their family members do work for, and learning about different careers.
On Monday we learned about being a doctor and a baker.
Doctor Miller came in and spoke to the students. They learned that you need to go to school for a long time to become a doctor. We also learned about some of the tools doctors use.
Next we met with Mrs. Vail and learned about being a cake baker. We not only learned about what she does for work, but also had a chance to decorate our own cupcake!! YUM!
